Health Canada approves skin health claims for SynbÆctive ProBeautyShield | Nutritional Outlook

The patented probiotic complex SynbÆctive ProBeautyShield was granted a Product License by Health Canada, validating several skin health claims for its beauty from within properties, SynBalance SRL announced.1 The complex supports skin health through the gut-skin axis support, utilizing a blend of L. plantarum PBS067, L. rhamnosus LRH020, and L. reuteri PBS072 to help modulate the immune system and promote antimicrobial properties against pathogens.

Clinical evidence: probiotics for acne, eczema, and skin aging

The selection of the bacterial strains in SynbÆctive ProBeautyShield was based on published evidence demonstrating their effects.2 Additionally, several trials demonstrated the complex’s effects on acne, atopic dermatitis, and skin aging.

In the recently published double-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial, “Investigating the impact of oral probiotic supplementation for acne management: A randomized controlled trial,” 64 adult female participants received the one capsule per day of the probiotic supplementation, or a placebo, for 54 days.3 The supplementation supported skin hydration, improved sebum and pH, and decreased lesions, compared to placebo.

The probiotic complex also demonstrated benefits for atopic dermatitis. In the 2021 study, “Efficacy of a probiotic supplement in patients with atopic dermatitis: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial,” 80 adult participants with mild-to-severe atopic dermatitis received either the probiotic supplement or a placebo for 56 days.4 Evaluations demonstrated an increase in skin smoothness, skin moisturization, and self-perception with the probiotic, as well as a decrease in the levels of inflammatory markers.

The 2025 study, “Skin Antiaging and Skin Health Benefits of Probiotic Intake Combined with Topical Ectoin and Sodium Hyaluronate: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial,” showed improvements in the appearance of skin aging associated with an improvement in the skin microbiome.5 In this study, 96 participants were given the probiotic complex or a placebo for 8 weeks. Improvements in wrinkle depth, skin hydration, and skin radiance were measured in the probiotic group.
